Vaccination is essential to protect pet rabbits against the highly fatal Calicivirus, which causes haemorrhagic viral disease. Calicivirus is prevalent in the Australian wild rabbit population and is an approved population control.

For baby rabbits, the first vaccination is administered from 4 weeks old, followed by 2 boosters a month apart. This is followed by a vaccination every 6 months in the healthy rabbit.

Please read our clinic news for the latest update on the new strains of Calicivirus in Australia and the release of RHDV1-K5 release by the government in March 2017.

There are no vaccinations necessary for guinea pigs.
